Another fantastic divisional matchup is on the horizon, as the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers square off with both teams each looking to breach the .500 mark. Who’ll come out on top of this upcoming battle in SocCal for sole possession of second place in the AFC West?

Why Bet on the Las Vegas Raiders?

It was a sloppy game all around for the Las Vegas Raiders, who dropped their second game of the season to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3, 23-18. A questionable field-goal attempt late in the contest down eight points baffled Raiders fans, as head coach Josh McDaniels’ decision to play conservatively with the game on the line ended up losing them the game.

For brief moments that Sunday night, Davante Adams looked unbeatable, with the All-Pro wideout hauling in 13 of 20 targets for 172 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. However, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo ended up being too predictable for the Steelers’ secondary, as Garoppolo threw three game-changing interceptions.

Perhaps the Raiders can get their offense going once more against a Los Angeles pass-coverage unit that’s allowed the most yards to opposing teams this season (337 passing yards allowed per game). Vegas has a middle-of-the-road defense at hand, but it will need to step up against one of the best QBs in the NFL right now.

Why Bet on the Los Angeles Chargers?

The early season curse has been broken, as the Los Angeles Chargers finally picked up their first win of the season with a tense 28-24 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3. Los Angeles hung on to a 14-point lead by the middle of the third quarter as its often-porous defense held its ground against a less-than-fortunate 2023 Vikings squad.

The Chargers’ second interception of the season was a big one at that, as Kenneth Murray Jr. picked off Kirk Cousins’ attempt at a game-winning touchdown drive. This defense will be tested once more as the Raiders know nothing more than to chuck the ball through the air with Jimmy G slinging throws to Adams all afternoon long.

That being said, the Bolts should be fine if they’re engaged in a shootout with Las Vegas. Justin Herbert is hot off his first 400-yard passing game in Week 3 to go with his three passing TDs against the Vikes, and Herbert has yet to throw a pick himself all season long at that. The Raiders’ defense has been passable at best, but the 25-year-old sensation out of Oregon is known to produce well against the Silver and Black since being drafted by the Chargers in 2020.

This is as close as a divisional rivalry gets, as two desperate 1-2 teams duke it out. Strange as it sounds, but we’ll take a risk and go with Vegas on this one. The Raiders have recently haunted the Chargers’ playoff dreams and both teams have been neck-and-neck of late in their head-to-head encounters. Expect the Chargers’ defense to implode again to the dismay of Herbert and the offense.
