Why Bet on the New York Rangers?

Game 4 looked a lot like Game 3 for the New York Rangers, whose potent offense has suddenly sputtered out on their home ice with their latest defeat being a 3-1 letdown on Monday. The New Jersey Devils gave New York a taste of its own medicine after the Rangers ran away with identical 5-1 victories in Games 1 and 2 of their first-round playoff series.

Left winger Chris Kreider, who’s currently ranked second in the postseason with five goals, was held scoreless in Game 4. Although, Kreider did assist on New York’s lone goal on Monday courtesy of Vincent Trocheck. Meanwhile, the Rangers’ other standouts in Artemi Panarin and Vladimir Tarasenko were non-factors for the second straight game and must regain their scoring prowess immediately.

On the bright side, the Rangers are still backed by the reigning Vezina Trophy winner Igor Shesterkin between the pipes. Although Shesterkin lost his last two starts, he still managed to limit New Jersey to no more than two goals in each of the four games in the series. His 1.44 goals-against average and .941 save percentage are also ranked second amongst all goaltenders this postseason thus far.

Why Bet on the New Jersey Devils?

With another tie game heading into the final period for the second straight meeting, the New Jersey Devils scored the final goals of their matchup against the Rangers to win Game 4. This time around, New Jersey no longer needed the extra period to do so like in Game 3’s thriller in MSG.

Jonas Siegenhaler scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period of Monday’s game, and Ondrej Palat scored an empty-netter insurance goal to seal the deal. The Devils have yet to reach their full scoring potential in the series, but at least they’ve fixed their goaltending woes from the first two games of the series.

The decision to start backup goalie Akira Schmid over Vitek Vanecek turned out to be a wise decision for the Devils and we expect head coach Lindy Ruff to stick to the 22-year-old Swiss for Game 5. Schmid held the Rangers to just a single goal in each of his last two starts, as his 0.91 GAA and .966 SV% are now tops in the playoffs over New York’s superstar netminder mentioned earlier.

Rangers vs. Devils Betting Trends

  • The Rangers are 4-1 on the road this month of April.
  • New York is also 4-1 in its last five outings as underdogs.
  • The totals went under in six of New York’s last eight games in general.
  • The Devils are 5-2 in the last seven home games, albeit with those two losses coming against the Rangers in this series.
  • New Jersey are 6-2 in its last eight games as favorites to win.
  • The totals have gone over in each of the last four games played in Jersey.

Rangers vs. Devils Game 5 Expert Betting Predictions

We foresee another massive battle between two goaltenders to turn Game 5 into another relatively low-scoring affair. This time around, though, Shesterkin should get the better of Schmid with the former’s experience coming through in the clutch. We’ll pick the Rangers’ star-studded cast to win Thursday’s showdown for the first win by a home team this series and to put New York just one win away from advancing to the next round.
