Top Tennis Betting Picks of the Week (May 3rd, 2022)

ATP

Diego Schwartzman vs. Grigor Dimitrov

  • When: May 4 at 12:00 pm ET
  • Tennis Odds: Diego Schwartzman -208 / Grigor Dimitrov +169

At the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell in April, Schwartzman played well enough to make it to the semifinals. There, he fell to Pablo Carreno Busta 3-6, 4-6 in straight sets. Schwartzman played great in his first Mutua Madrid Open match, beating Benoit Pare. But it wasn’t easy. Diego had to fight hard, playing 4 total sets. Dimitrov beat his first round opponent, Maxime Cressy, in 3 sets. The underdog is worth backing.

Tennis Betting Pick: Grigor Dimitrov

Marin Cilic vs. Alexander Zverev

  • When: May 5 at 12:00 pm ET
  • Tennis Odds: Marin Cilic +452 / Alexander Zverev -625

Zverev got a bye in the first round, which means this will be his first step onto the courts at the Mutua Madrid. In 2021, the chalk in this played great, rolling through his opponents. The favorite in this match knocked out both Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem in straight sets on his way to a Mutua Madrid Finals win against Matteo Berrettini. Zverev should handle Marin Cilic even though Cilic looked great blasting Albert Ramos Vinolas in his first round match.

Tennis Betting Pick: Alexander Zverev

Cameron Norrie vs. Jon Isner

  • When: May 5 at 12:00 pm ET
  • Tennis Odds: Cameron Norrie -132 / Jon Isner +110

Favored Cameron Norrie took apart Soon Woo Kwon 7-5, 7-5 in his first Mutua match. At the Barcelona Open, Norrie made it all the way to the quarterfinals. Jon Isner required an extra set to beat Filip Krajinovic. Isner won the first set 7-6 (10-8). The underdog improved in the second set, beating Krajinovic 6 games to 4. The odds make Isner the play.

Tennis Betting Pick: Jon Isner

WTA

Ons Jabeur vs. Simona Halep

  • When: May 5 at 12:00 pm ET
  • Tennis Odds: Ons Jabeur +163 / Simona Halep -200

The women are ahead of the men at the Mutua Madrid Open. This is a quarterfinals match between two of the highest-ranked players in the tournament. #10 Ons Jabeur has lost 2 sets during the Madrid Open, a set versus Varvara Gracheva and a set against Belinda Bencic. Both losses were the second set. So Jabeur rallied in the third set to beat both her opponents.

Halep hasn’t yet lost a set. In her last, versus burgeoning star Cori Coco Gauff, Halep rolled, beating Gauff 6-4, 6-4. The former number one player now ranks #21. Don’t let the ranking fool you. Simona is back to playing her best tennis. She wins.

Tennis Betting Pick: Simona Halep

Ekaterina Alexandrova vs. Amanda Anisimova

  • When: May 5 at 12:00 pm ET
  • Tennis Odds: Ekaterina Alexandrova +140 / Amanda Anisimova -169

This should be a terrific match. But Anisimova has the slight edge because she didn’t have to work as hard as Alexandrova in her fourth-round win. The slight chalk beat Victoria Azarenka 6-1, 6-4 in straight sets. The underdog in this had to play 4 sets to beat Marie Bouzkova. Anisimova has already won a singles title this year. No doubt, Amanda Anisimova can win her second title in 2022 because she’s played as well as Halep.

Tennis Betting Pick: Amanda Anisimova
