2021 PGA Hero World Challenge Recap

Viktor Hovland shot a -18 to grab first place. Scheffler followed Hovland in first with a -17 and in third place, Sam Burns and Patrick Reed both finished at -15.

Fifth place ended up a tie between Collin Morikawa and Justin Thomas, both at -14. Seventh place was also a tie between Daniel Berger and Tony Finau at -13. Jon Rahm, this year’s favorite, didn’t play at the 2021 Hero World Challenge.

2022 Hero World Challenge Top Pick

Last year’s Hero World Challenge winner is playing well enough to garner a look to repeat this year. Viktor Hovland shot a -12 on his way to a tied fifth at the ZOZO Championship.

In his next tournament played, Viktor shot a -7 to tie for twenty-first at The CJ Cup in South Carolina. Then at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba, Hovland shot a -16 to finish a tied tenth.

Hovland hasn’t won a tournament yet this season. But he is playing great and knows the Hero World Challenge course well. At the odds, Viktor is more than playable.

2022 Hero World Challenge Second Pick

Scottie Scheffler, who lost to Hovland by a single stroke in this last year, followed up a tied third at the World Wide Technology at Mayakoba with a tied ninth at the Cadence Bank Houston Open in his last.

Scottie shot a 70-66-71-67 on his way to a -6 at the Houston Open. Scheffler, last season’s PGA Player of the Year, is knocking on the door to a win. Like Hovland, the odds make Scottie playable.

2022 Hero World Challenge Third Pick

If Jon Rahm offered better odds, he’d be the top pick. But at +500, it’s tough to back the chalk.

The reason? Rahm has played a single tournament this season, The CJ Cup. Jon finished a tied fourth in the tournament. So he can definitely win this, but again, the odds make him a play against for the top spot.

However, if you don’t mind the low odds, Rahm has as much of a chance to take home the Hero World Challenge trophy as any player teeing off on Thursday.

2022 Hero World Challenge Underdog Pick

Since winning the Fortinet Championship in mid-September, Max Homa has played good enough to consider backing.

Although he didn’t finish in the top ten at both the Shriners Children’s Open and The CJ Cup, Homa finished in the top 25 in both.

If he improves upon the twenty-third place finish at The CJ Cup, he can win this. Max has a better shot of securing the trophy than the odds indicate.
