Viktor Hovland is on fire. The Norwegian shot a ridiculous 61 in the final round at the BMW Championship to leap to first place. Hovland pocketed a cool $3.6 million for winning the BMW.
Although the 61 broke a record, it’s not as if Viktor hadn’t played well in the previous three rounds. Hovland shot a 69 Round 1, a 68 Round 2, and a 65 Round 3. If he continues playing like he has, he can for sure make up a couple of strokes on Scheffler.
2023 TOUR Championship Second Pick
The world’s top ranked golfer heads to the PGA TOUR Championship at 10-under. Because of Scottie Scheffler’s lead, the only player with a real shot of catching Scottie is probably Viktor Hovland.
Making up 4 strokes on Scheffler over a course he’s familiar, like what Jon Rahm must do, or making up even 3 strokes, like what Rory is attempting, may be asking too much.
So, in a sense, Scheffler is a top two pick no matter how you want to play this. We chose Hovland first because right now nobody is playing as well as Viktor, but if you decide to go with the chalk, we can’t argue against the move.

After the BMW Championship, Jon Rahm complained about side betting on almost every hole as being a distraction. Although JR has a point, it’s a sign he may not be as focused as he must to win the TOUR.

McIlroy won this last year. So he can, for sure, make it back-to-back TOUR titles.

Patrick Cantlay finished second at the St. Jude Championship then last week he finished fifteenth. Although Cantlay must make up 6 strokes on Scheffler, it’s doable if Scottie isn’t at his best.
Not only that, but Patrick shot a -16 in 2022 only 5 strokes off McIlroy’s first place -21. Cantlay can get it done and the odds make him playable.
