Capitals vs. Bruins NHL Playoffs Odds and Game 3 Prediction — May 19th, 2021

By Hank Blaine

The series between the Capitals vs. Bruins is starting to get interesting. Game 2 saw the Boston Bruins winning at the last minute to take the series back to the TD Garden with a tie and home field advantage in the process. It was a bummer for the Capitals to say the least, but there’s still a lot of road ahead for both teams. This game could definitely define that road.

Why Bet on the Washington Capitals?

One of the major issues the Caps encountered in Game 2 was who to use as their goaltender. Vitek Vanecek started off but didn’t last a period, due to a pulled muscle during gameplay. And Ilya Samsonov was in COVID protocol for the second time this season. So, Craig Anderson came back to the ice, allowing four goals on 48 shots. He was also the lifesaver for Washington in Game 1, as he only allowed one goal in 22 shots. But he is a veteran and speed could be an issue. It’s a tough call right now for them.

Overchkin is carrying the bigger load for the team. He has yet to score in this series, but has been able to provide assists in each game. His stats indicate he only has two playoffs goals against the Bruins. He’s currently tied with 69 playoff goals, same as Sidney Crosby. He needs to step up and make some important plays tonight if he wants the Capitals to stay alive.

Why Bet on the Boston Bruins?

Boston has struggled to convert in the High-Danger Chances, though they have improved within the past two games. Their current conversion rate is around 14%, with a scoring percentage of 8%. Both are at even at strength and in numbers, so we could expect plenty of goals, though it hasn’t been exactly that way.

The addition of Taylor Hall to the club has been quite the benefit for the Bruins. He wasn’t doing much in Buffalo, but as soon started with the Bruins, things changed a lot. He went from averaging a point every other game to 14 points in 16 games, averaging threes shots a game with Boston. His shooting percentage is 16.7%. The fact these stats went up helped Boston for Game 2. He scored a tying goal last time. He’s trouble for the Caps.

Capitals vs. Bruins Betting Trends

  • The Capitals are 5-2 SU in the last 7 games.
  • The Capitals are 13-7 SU in the last 20 games against Boston.
  • The total went UNDER in 4 of Washington’s last 5 games.
  • The Bruins are 13-6 SU in the last 19 games.
  • The Bruins are 3-10 SU in the last 13 games when playing at home against Washington.
  • The total went OVER in 4 of the Bruins’ last 6 games against Washington.

Capitals vs. Bruins Expert Betting Predictions

The Bruins’ top line should be able to come up with those goals sooner than later. That could come in Game 2, as Boston surely doesn’t want to go down 0-2 in the series. The Caps, on the other hand, also didn’t get any goal from their first line, though TJ Oshie played a big role in the game-winning goal. This is looking like another close contest that could end up a high-scoring one.
