AL Cy Young Top Pick

It’s a known fact that when excellent starting pitchers change leagues, it takes batters in the new league a while to catch up. When it comes to a starter like Jacob DeGrom, forget it.

DeGrom, who switched from the NL New York Mets to the AL Texas Rangers, has a lifetime 2.52 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. During his 9-year career, DeGrom has struck out 1,602 batters in 1,326 innings. That’s more than a strikeout an inning.

AL MVP

Shohei Ohtani or Aaron Judge are the easy plays. Judge shouldn’t repeat his record-breaking home run season from 2022. If Judge doesn’t hit as many home runs, he won’t win the AL MVP.

Shohei is a threat for sure. But the top play is Mike Trout.

Ohtani’s teammate had a decent season in 2022. Trout hit .283, batted in 80 RBIs, and hit 40 home runs. No doubt, Mike can improve upon the stats. Not only that, but the odds are more than fair.

AL Pennant

Justin Verlander bolted to the New York Mets, which is the main reason the Astros offer much higher odds to win the AL Pennant than they should.

Losing Verlander won’t hurt much. The rotation still includes: Framber Valdez, Christian Javier, Lance McCullers Jr., Luis Garcia, and Jose Urquidy.

The batting lineup remains arguably the best in MLB. Stros win another pennant.

NL Cy Young

National League batters have no idea how good Verlander is. Justin should dominate his fellow National Leaguers this season. Verlander is the ace ahead of Max Scherzer in the rotation, which tells you what the Mets expect from Justin.

Justin Verlander has always answered the bell. Unless he suffers an injury, another Cy Young award appears almost certain to land in Justin’s lap.

NL MVP

For some reason, the Dodgers’ bats tailed off towards the end of last season, which is why LAD failed to touch the NL Pennant.

Mookie Betts was a part of the brigade that failed. Mookie should pick it up this season and warrants a long look to win the NL MVP. No doubt, Betts improves upon his .269 batting average. If Mookie can bat in over 100 runs and increase his BA to .300 or above while still hitting at least 30 homers, he’ll be in the running for the MVP.

NL Pennant

Forget about the Mets’ batting lineup. It will produce runs for sure. At least, it will produce enough.

The Mets’ go three-deep in their rotation, meaning NYM has three ace pitchers. Verlander is the 1, Scherzer is the 1A, and Japanese League Star Kodai Senga is 1B.

Senga tore up the Japan League. He’s got terrific stuff. Once the postseason rolls around, the Mets’ three ace pitchers will dominate the competition.
